Levoit scammed millions of consumers into buying fake HEPA filters during Covid

In case you didn’t know, there is a large class action against Levoit (Vesync) – world’s largest air purifier manufacturer that primarily sells in the US on Amazon and in retail stores. They made hundreds of millions of dollars selling air purifiers that were supposed to filter out Covid via HEPA filters when in reality were lower grade and not even close to HEPA grade.

Fraud on a massive scale.

They previously lost a BBB challenge for this same fraud:

Key Claims Against Vesync:

  • Vesync falsely advertised their Levoit air purifiers (EverestAir, Core 300, and Core 300S models) as having “True HEPA” filters that could trap 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns in size.
  • Independent testing by both Dyson and the plaintiff’s counsel revealed that the filters did not meet HEPA standards, despite Vesync’s claims.
  • Vesync quietly removed HEPA claims from their product pages and marketing materials after a National Advertising Division (NAD) investigation, but only after profiting significantly from sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The company knowingly deceived consumers who specifically sought HEPA filtration capabilities for protection against airborne pathogens and pollutants.

The scale of deception is massive – Vesync’s Core 300 series became the “#1 Best Selling Air Purifier Brand in the US,” doing “tens of millions of dollars in sales per month on Amazon.com alone. This means potentially millions of consumers who thought they were protecting themselves and their families with HEPA-grade filtration were actually receiving inferior protection during a global respiratory pandemic.

This case is particularly concerning because it involves public health and safety during a critical period. The deception occurred during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when consumers were desperately seeking air purifiers for protection against airborne viruses. HEPA filtration represents a critical standard in air purification, and consumers rely on these certifications when making health-related purchases. The fact that Vesync allegedly exploited public health fears for profit by falsely claiming HEPA certification is especially egregious.
